The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Dragon Boat Day, is a traditional festival in China. Every year on the fifth day of the fifth month in the lunar calendar, people use the festival to commemorate Qu Yuan. He was an ancient patriotic poet. It is said that after he jumped into the river, people rowed boats to save him. Later, the boats slowly became dragon boat races. This story helps us remember courage, loyalty, and feelings for family and country. Today, the Dragon Boat Festival feels lively and warm. On this day, families clean the rooms in the morning and hang mugwort and calamus. They believe these plants can drive away mosquitoes and bring health. Many cities also hold temple fairs and markets. Adults and children go to watch shows, buy small gifts, and feel the holiday atmosphere. The most famous activity of the Dragon Boat Festival is the dragon boat race. Team members put on the same clothes, hold oars, and follow the drumbeat to paddle hard together. Spectators cheer on the shore and shout very loudly. Colorful flags fly over the water, and the scene is very vivid. Besides the races, people make zongzi. Leaves wrap japonica or glutinous rice, with red bean paste, pork, salted egg yolk, or peanuts added. The taste is fragrant and soft. At home, elders often teach young people to learn to wrap zongzi and share methods and memories. Now many schools and communities also organize talks and handicraft experiences to introduce history, culture, and safety knowledge, so more people understand this festival, learn to respect tradition, and spend a meaningful day with family and friends.
