English Translation

This morning I got up early with my mom. The sky was a bit overcast, and the air felt cool. I washed my face and brushed my teeth, put on my new school uniform, and carried my blue school bag. I felt a bit nervous and also very curious, because today was my first day in middle school. Mom made hot milk and an egg sandwich for me. She smiled and said, “Go for it, you will make new friends.” I nodded, ate breakfast carefully, and checked my stationery, notebooks, and textbooks again, afraid of forgetting something important. When we went out, a light rain began to fall, so we held an umbrella and went to school. A welcome banner hung outside the school gate; the colors were bright and lively. I saw new classmates lining up to enter. Some eyes were shining, and some looked shy. The homeroom teacher stood at the classroom door, gently introduced himself or herself, and helped me find a seat. My seat was by the window; the desk was clean and the chair steady. Next to me was a classmate who loved to smile; his name was Lintao. We whispered, introduced our hometowns, hobbies, and goals, and said we wanted to work hard and study together. The first period was Chinese. The teacher asked us to read a short passage and share our feelings. I took notes carefully, and when I met words I didn’t understand, I wrote them down. At noon, the cafeteria had rice, vegetables, and chicken. Lintao and I sat by the window and talked about today’s sights and experiences. In the afternoon, we visited the library and the playground and practiced lining up. When school ended, I said to myself, “The first day wasn’t as hard as I imagined. I have blended into the environment, and tomorrow I will continue with confidence.”
