A Rainy Day

Een regenachtige dag

Het regent vandaag zacht en lang. Donkere wolken hangen laag boven de straat. Ik draag een jas en neem een kleine paraplu mee. De lucht ruikt fris, en de bomen druppelen langzaam. Op het plein lopen mensen snel, want de wind maakt hen nat. Een bus stopt vaak, en kinderen wachten onder een afdak. Thuis zet ik warme thee, en ik lees een korte tekst. Ik luister naar tikken op het raam en tel de druppels. Buiten glanzen plassen op de stoep, en het licht is grijs maar rustig. Na de lunch wordt de regen lichter, en ik maak een korte wandeling.

English Translation

It is raining today, softly and for a long time. Dark clouds hang low above the street. I wear a coat and take a small umbrella. The air smells fresh, and the trees drip slowly. On the square people walk fast, because the wind makes them wet. A bus stops often, and children wait under a shelter. At home I make hot tea, and I read a short text. I listen to tapping on the window and count the drops. Outside, puddles shine on the sidewalk, and the light is gray but calm. After lunch the rain becomes lighter, and I take a short walk.
