Dutch Reading Passages

Dutch, spoken by around 24 million people primarily in the Netherlands and Belgium, belongs to the West Germanic branch of the Indo-European family. In Belgium, the language is known as Flemish, with subtle differences in pronunciation and vocabulary. Dutch has a reputation for its straightforward grammar and its close relationship to both English and German. Historically, Dutch spread across the globe through trade and colonization, leaving its mark on languages in Indonesia, South Africa (Afrikaans), and the Caribbean. Today, Dutch thrives not only in Europe but also in Suriname and overseas territories, while continuing to influence international law, commerce, and the arts.
