A Farmer's Morning

Asubuhi ya Mkulima

Mkulima Juma anaamka mapema kabla ya jua. Anaosha uso na mikono, kisha anakunywa chai na kula mkate mdogo.

English Translation

Farmer Juma wakes up early before the sun. He washes his face and hands, then drinks tea and eats a small bread. He hears birds singing, the wind is gentle, the sky has a pink color. Juma puts on a work shirt and boots. He takes a hoe and a bucket, and goes outside. First, he feeds the chickens and gives them water. Then he milks the cow and puts the milk in a bottle. After that, he walks in the field. He looks at the maize and beans, and waters the plants gently. He pulls small weeds. He greets a neighbor with a smile, he says, Good morning. As the sun rises, the heat increases. Juma rests a little, sits under a tree, and plans the day's work.
