Going to the Market
Kwenda Sokoni
Asubuhi ninaamka mapema na ninaenda sokoni karibu na nyumba yangu. Nimevaa shati nyepesi na viatu vya kutembea. Nimebeba mfuko tupu, ninafurahi kununua vitu safi.
English Translation
In the morning I wake up early and I go to the market near my house. I wear a light shirt and walking shoes. I carry an empty bag, I am happy to buy fresh things. At the market I greet the sellers with a smile. I ask the price of tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, and bananas. The seller says the price is good, but I ask for a small discount. We laugh, we agree, and I pay with cash shillings. I also buy a small bread, cold milk, and two eggs. The smell of fruit and flowers makes me feel hungry. Before returning home, I sit a little, I drink water, and I watch people buying. Later I carry my heavy bag home, I prepare simple food and rest.
