Visiting Grandmother
Kumtembelea Bibi
English Translation
Today I visit grandmother with my family. We go by a small bus from the town to the village. I stand and hold my bag, my sister carries flowers. I am happy to see grandma; she laughs and gives us greetings. Her house has a yard with mango trees and red flowers. We sit in the living room, we drink tea and eat bread. Grandma asks me about school, I say I am learning to read and write. She shows old pictures and tells us a short story. Later we cook simple pilau together, the smell is sweet. In the evening, we walk near the field and listen to birds. I hug grandma and say thank you before returning home.
