Ugali and sukuma wiki are simple and popular foods in East Africa. Ugali is made with maize flour and water. It is cooked until it becomes a little firm. Sukuma wiki is a green leafy vegetable. These vegetables are chopped, then cooked with oil, onions, and a little tomato. Many people eat ugali and sukuma wiki every day, at home, at school, or at work. This food is cheap, gives energy, and is filling. Ugali is cut by hand and used like a small spoon. It helps to hold vegetables or sauce. Sometimes people add fish, beans, or meat. Families sit together, talk, and learn about culture by eating together.
