Paying with Shillings

Amina anaenda sokoni asubuhi. Anaona duka la matunda na mboga, liko na rangi nyingi. Anamsalimia muuzaji kwa tabasamu, na anasema anataka kununua kwa shilingi. Anataka ndizi, maembe, na machungwa. Anauliza bei ni shilingi ngapi. Muuzaji anasema, ndizi ni shilingi mia moja kwa mbili, maembe ni shilingi mia tano kila moja, na machungwa ni shilingi mia mbili kwa tatu. Amina anahesabu polepole, na anatoa shilingi elfu moja. Muuzaji anapokea pesa, anampa matunda, na anatoa chenji ya shilingi mia mbili. Amina anafurahi, anashukuru, na anatoka dukani taratibu. English Translation

Amina goes to the market in the morning. She sees a fruit and vegetable shop, it has many colors. She greets the seller with a smile, and says she wants to buy with shillings. She wants bananas, mangoes, and oranges. She asks, what is the price in shillings? The seller says, bananas are one hundred shillings for two, mangoes are five hundred shillings each, and oranges are two hundred shillings for three. Amina counts slowly, and gives one thousand shillings. The seller receives the money, gives her the fruit, and gives change of two hundred shillings. Amina is happy, she says thank you, and leaves the shop slowly. She counts again at home, and keeps coins and notes in her purse.
