Village Celebration
English Translation
Today is a special day in our village. Early in the morning, the sun rises and the sky is clear. Many people gather in the field, decorating the stage with arches of flowers and small flags. Women cook sweet pilau, fish with a good smell, and fresh vegetables. Men place chairs, making shade with trees and nets. Children try drums and simple songs, practicing a dance. Visitors from nearby villages arrive by motorbikes and small buses, bringing greetings and smiles. At midday, the celebration begins with a short speech from the village chairperson. He thanks everyone for the teamwork and invites all to sit together. A group of youth plays simple games, and a group of mothers shows baskets and handmade bags. After the entertainment, there are competitions such as running, throwing a ball, and tug of war. Everyone celebrates with food, hot tea, and many fruits. In the evening, we light a big fire in the middle of the field. Elders tell old stories, and we all sing slowly under the stars. Some youths show a small football match at the side, while parents talk about farms, the price of grains, and school. As the night starts to be cold, all put on light coats and blankets, but the joy continues with slow dancing. The celebration ends with a promise to help each other, to clean the field, and to meet again next year.
