Romanian Reading Passages

Romanian is a Romance language spoken by about 25 million people, primarily in Romania and Moldova. It evolved from Latin, retaining more grammatical complexity than its Romance siblings, and it features strong Slavic, Greek, Turkish, and Hungarian influences. Its use of cases and unique vocabulary make it distinct within the Romance family. Romanian culture is steeped in folklore, poetry, and a strong tradition of Orthodox Christianity. The language is also a gateway to understanding the Carpathian region’s history, from Dacian roots to the modern European Union. For learners, Romanian provides not only access to a rich culture but also bridges connections between Eastern and Western Europe.
